Should Trump Pardon Hillary?

11/11/2016

What if Trump pardoned Hillary?

Before any of you choke on this idea, allow me to say that I really, really still want to see her in prison. I want to see Hillary, Bill, Barack Obama, Lois Lerner, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, and a whole lotta others summarily shuffled off to the hoosegow. I want to see these people pay for their reckless and feckless malfeasance, and for all their criminality that has gone unpunished over the years. I want them to be held accountable for all the blood and treasure they’ve squandered, and for all the ill-gotten gain and lucre they’ve acquired.

In spite of this, I now wonder about the “optics” of how all this will play out. It’s all well and good to chant, “Lock her up!” and “Drain the Swamp!” But are there any negatives to acting on those chants? At least with respect to Hillary, who is now a defeated candidate for President. Would locking her up be, as the Brits say, “bad form”?

We on the Right all want The Ruling Class to be shown the door. Big time. We on the Right want a restoration of Federalism, and a return of the sovereign power to the Sovereign People. Well, in order for Trump to drain the swamp but de-fang the lame assertions of “Banana Republic” that the Ruling Class Media will volcanically hurl at him, what if one of his first acts as President were to pardon Hillary?

Yes, she is one of the big fish swimming in the fetid swamp that is Washington DC. Perhaps, next to President Obama, the biggest one. Yes, she deserves to fry. She really, really does.

But here’s the rub: frying her would probably enrage, inflame, and otherwise sauté so many rank-and-file Democrats (and maybe even some middle-of-the-road Americans).  So much so that such a well-deserved Hillary Clinton “fish-fry” might do more harm than good. Hillary was defeated, but she still racked up close to 49 % of the popular vote.  That’s a lot of voters who invested their vote in Hillary; that's a lot of potentially pissed off people.

And, were Trump to pardon Hillary, it would cause many of the Ruling Class Media’s heads to explode.

As I said at the opening of this post, I do not want to see her skate once again. Well, in a manner of speaking, she didn’t skate. On November 8th the American People voted, “guilty.” She has been resoundingly humiliated by the very rubes she detests. I can’t shake the notion that the Election Day’s rebuke was, for Hillary, the “unkindest cut of all.”

Well, I say, don’t give her a reason to get back in the game. If, and I mean when, the Trump Justice Department finds and exposes the depth, breath, and scope of her criminal and treasonous acts, she will once again rise-up in feigned outrage or outright fabricated righteous indignation. Her fellow travelers will circle the wagons and cry “Banana Republic” till the cows come home.

Don’t let her resurrect her desire to play the victim card. I say, pardon her--then immediately turn our focus to ferret out all the smaller fish to fry. Lord knows that there are probably so many smaller fish to fry that the aroma of battered seafood will be wafting from the Potomac all the way up to NYC’s Central Park.  Maybe the aroma will spread nation-wide.

I am a happily married middle-aged man who served his country as a nuclear-trained US Navy sailor during the peacetime years of the late 1980s.  I re-entered civilian life before the First Gulf War.  Though I trained for war as part of my military duties, I saw no combat during my service.  War games were as close to combat, and its perils, that I ever got.

In civilian life I experienced a varied career, culminating with being a departmental Help Desk / Network Administrator / Computing Support technician in the University of Virginia's then-named Office of Development and Public Affairs. (The current reorganized / renamed department is now the University Advancement Office and University Communications.)

I got my first taste for political writing by posting comments to other writers' commentaries on American Thinker and The American Spectator web sites.  I posted my comments under the  user name "TwoShoes."

I still, on occasion, post comments on those sites using that moniker.  These days, however, most of my political commentary is now posted and published on the WesternFreePress.com site.
